Annual gross sales (2008 & 2009) and 2010 forecast (USDbn)
At the end of 2009, USD 328.9bn was held by retail investors in all forms of structured products across the five markets of the Americas, an increase of 12.7% on 2008. (The coverage of this report expanded this year with the addition of Brazil and Chile.) Note that this total includes both tranche and open-ended continuous products, which makes a significant impact on the figures for the USA. In the USA we include equity-indexed annuities and a number of continuous fund products (closed-end buy-write funds, for example). These had outstanding assets of USD 195bn at the end of the year, representing over 74% of the US total, a two percentage point increase in market share over the year.
