The proportion of Spain's listed equity market owned by households increased to 16.7% in 2025, but foreign investors remained the dominant shareholder group with a record 50.4% stake.

Spanish securities markets operator BME published its Report on Share Ownership in Listed Spanish Companies, international investors strengthened their position in Spain’s equity market during 2025, with foreign ownership rising to a record 50.4% of the market capitalisation of listed Spanish companies, up 1.7% points from the previous year. This marked the highest level on record and reflected the continued attractiveness of Spanish equities  BME said this marked the highest leve
