Chinese financial technology provider Pintec has launched its first robo advisor in Singapore. The new solution called Pivot will offer digital wealth management technology services powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning throughout Southeast Asia (SEA) from its base in Singapore.

The technology is completely machine-generated through market data and trend models, adjusted in real time, and managed to the specified risk profile of the customer, according to Zheng Yudong (pictured), chief executive at Pintec's Polaris unit. "Unlike other robo advisors in Singapore, which target individual investors, Pivot will partner with financial institutions to offer the service," said Yudong.

"The technology will operate in the SEA region to offer Pintec's proprietary dynamic, real-time wealth management and robo advisory technology to financial institutions," said Yudong. "Every investment model portfolio is designed using predicted information and matched to the investor's personal investment risk profile - at the time when the investor enrolls," he said. "As investment markets change all the time, the model portfolios are machine determined each new day without human intervention."

Pivot will be Pintec's first project outside of China, and is in part backed by pan-Asian life insurer FWD Group and angel investors, according to Yudong. "Through this new technology, our company hopes to both tap the huge fintech potential in Southeast Asia, while also supporting the call of the Chinese government's One Belt, One Road initiative," he said. "There is an increasing number of Chinese fintech companies which are making their mark in Southeast Asian countries in response to the government's Belt and Road initiatives."

Digital wealth management and robo advisory are relatively new concepts in Asia and the business is still in its infantry stage in the region, said Yudong. "Our new technology will localise Pintec solutions for Southeast Asian countries to meet the local regulatory requirements and the needs of local clients," said Yudong.

Pintec Group is among China's leading end-to-end fintech solution provider to businesses and financial institutions, Yudong commented. "The company aims to leverage technology to advance financial services and level the playing field," said Yudong, adding that the company provides innovative digital financial services solutions to institutions and their customers. Among the company's wholly owned subsidiaries are Dumiao, a digital lending technology; Polaris, a digital wealth-management and robo-advisory; Hongdian Fund, an online mutual fund distribution; and Myfin Insurance, an online insurance brokerage.
