The Swiss Structured Products Association (SSPA) has added Baker McKenzie to its ranks as a new member and partner. Baker McKenzie provides local and cross-border advice on Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, Private Equity and Tax as well as also advising clients in the structured products field.

Matthias Courvoisier (pictured), partner at Baker McKenzie, said in a statement that the structured products sector is a very important one for the firm in the Swiss market.

The SSPA has been pushing its membership since mid-2015 when it opened its ranks to the domestic buy-side in a move to successively expand into a sectoral association. SSPA represents the interests of the most important market participants, which together cover more than 95% of the market volume for structured products in Switzerland.

According to SSPA president Georg von Wattenwyl, the admission of Baker McKenzie will enable the association 'to draw upon extended expertise - especially in regulatory topics', as well as to 'exercise interests and to represent the entire sector even more effectively'.

The Swiss trade body has also announced the addition of Indosuez Wealth Management as a new active member and buy-side representative.

Sylveline Besson, global head of structured products and OTC derivatives at Indosuez Wealth Management, said structured products 'constitute an alternative to traditional investments and provide attractive solutions tailored to meet the specific expectations' of the firm's private clients.

'We are convinced that structured products bring both diversification and performance to the portfolios,' said Besson, in a statement. 'As an active designer and distributor of products not only in Switzerland, but also globally in major Wealth Management markets, we decided (...) to contribute together with the SSPA to the development of our industry in Switzerland and outside its borders.'
