Innovation when it comes to structured product wrappers was a theme that came back multiple times during SRP’s Americas event, which took place in Chicago on May 22.

New types of wrappers have the ability to help issuers grow their business by offering similar solutions under different wrappers, like the industry did a decade ago with market-linked deposits. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and unit investment trusts (UITs), for instance, have evolved to include barriers and other forms of principal protection - in essence, structured product payoffs with a better wrapper.  Another advantage they could have would be their potential for attracting new types
