Interest has been growing among Asian investors on products with a market neutral strategy due to the increased volatility seen since the second half of this year. The sales volume of such products, however, remains significantly low, pointing to the high-level of risks and complexity the notes are exposed to.

“We do see interest in dual-directional payoffs, but these tend to be more tactical investment strategies for our investors and represent only a fraction of what we see on our business as a whole,” said Martin Goerojo, director of capital markets investment products for Asia Pacific at Citi global consumer banking wealth management. “In percentage terms, these would be less than 1% of the year-to-date volumes,” he said.
